I’m going to read an excerpt from Jack of Hearts (And Other Parts) by L. C. Rosen. It’s an ebook in our collection that’s written for teens.
By the way, there’s nothing in the board’s bylaws or policies that prohibits what I’m about to say. But if you feel it’s inappropriate for a board meeting, ask yourself whether it’s appropriate for children and teens.
Once again, I ask you to add an agenda item to next month’s meeting to amend the Collection Development Policy so that it protects children and teens from explicit content. The recent measures implemented by staff to comply with Senate Bill 412 are simply not enough.
By the way, in the excerpted anecdote the narrator was a freshman in high school, so about 14 years old.
